Our trip to Vienna then a cruise west on the Danube, Main, and Rhine to Amsterdam was a trip of a lifetime. We left August 26 and returned September 16th. We loved every mile of the trip, wonderful food, sites, and folks. The Grand Circle Travel Co. knows how to do it.
Our exchange for three nights in Vienna added so much to the experience allowing us to experience “old” Vienna with a stay at the Marriott Vienna. The hotel is within walking distance of all the famous landmarks. We particularly enjoyed the 24-hour buffet, the proximity to shopping/sightseeing, the indoor pool and the large excellent rooms.
We are both musicians and teachers of music thus we appreciated very much the monuments to Mozart, Schubert, Beethoven and Bruckner. Our sightseeing included Stephansdom, the Gothic cathedral that is one Vienna’s most prominent landmarks. We visited the Holburg Palace, the Kunsthistorisches Museum, the Belvedere, Karlskirche, and the Secession Building. We very much enjoyed the Staatsoper and Schloss Sconbrunn, using the public transportation to get from one sight to another.
For hearty Austrian food as well as specially brewed beer we visited Salm Bräu on Rennweg, next to the Belvedere. Also the Lower Belvedere, formerly the Museum of Austrian Baroque Art, it is now used for various temporary exhibitions.
The river cruise , leaving from Vienna, was quite memorable but those three days pre-cruise are ones we will never forget and hope to repeat in the future. The II exchange made the Vienna stay possible thus a trip of a lifetime.
